The Central Connecticut Department of Athletics participated in National Girls and Women In Sports Day by holding a free clinic for young female athletes on Saturday Jan. 26th. The children attending the clinic were coached by members of CCSU's women soccer, lacrosse, golf, softball and volleyball teams. Members of the Blue Devil cheer and dance squads also participated in the clinic.
The 2013 celebration of NGWSD marks the 27th year of the program. CCSU is in its second year participating in NGWSD.
A group of 60 young athletes from local communities participated in the clinic. The participants were divided into small groups and rotated through stations being run by student-athletes from each of the sports in attendance.
Following the clinic, their was a group lunch and the participants were invited to attend the CCSU women's basketball game against St. Francis Brooklyn.
All of the participants also received a pink CCSU tee-shirt in support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
NGWSD will officially be held on Feb. 6, 2013, but universities are encouraged to build their event around a home women's basketball game. The theme of this year's event is "Girls in Sports, an Investment in the Future."
