McIntyre, Casey Brown Honored by NEC

Following a weekend Northeast Conference series sweep over Quinnipiac, a pair of Central Connecticut baseball players were honored by the conference office on Monday.  Junior Tyler McIntyre was named the NEC Player of the Week for the first time in his career.  Freshman southpaw Casey Brown was named the Co-Rookie of the Week.

McIntyre was one of an amazing 10 Blue Devils to bat over .300 during last week's five-game clip that featured a NEC series sweep over Quinnipiac.  The 6-foot-4, 225-pound corner infielder scored five runs and added five RBI in five starts, four of which came at first base.

McIntyre, who went 6-for-17 (.353) at the plate, hit safely in all five contests and rides a six-game hit streak as a result.  He walked once and blasted a two-run first-inning homer in Central's 9-3 series-opening victory against Quinnipiac.  In Game 2, McIntyre produced a fifth-inning single and came around to score.  His run gave Central a 6-1 lead at the time, but it wound up being the difference in an eventual 6-5 final.

After Quinnipiac took a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning in Game 3, McIntyre answered right back for the Blue Devils in their first at-bat.  His run-scoring single sent Central on its way to an eventual 3-2 triumph.  The left-handed swinging slugger went 2-for-5 with a double, a RBI, and two runs scored in a 13-7 win that completed the four-game series sweep on Sunday.

Brown enjoyed his most-effective day as a collegian thus far this past weekend against Quinnipiac.  The freshman lefty twirled 7.0 scoreless innings of four-hit baseball in Sunday's series finale.

The South Jersey product struck out four Bobcat batters and walked only one as he pitched to a 0.71 WHIP (Walks-Hits-Inning Pitched). Setting Central up to complete the four-game series sweep, Brown handed the ball along with a 13-0 lead to the Blue Devils' bullpen.  The eventual 13-7 CCSU victory bumped Brown's record to 2-1.
