Rhode Island Tops Baseball 10-5

The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped to 15-10 overall on the season dropping a 10-5 home decision to Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon.  The loss is just the second at home this season for the Blue Devils, who are now 9-2 in New Britain.

The Rams improve to 14-13 overall with their fourth straight victory.  The Blue Devils continue action on the road in a weekend series at Bryant beginning Thursday at 3 p.m.

Rhode Island got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first inning off of Blue Devils freshman starter Mike Krukiel.

The Blue Devils tied the game with a pair of runs in the second inning.  Sophomore Dylan DelaCruz and junior Chris Renzoni singled to lead off the inning, and went to second and third on a sacrifice bunt.  DelaCruz scored on a wild pitch, and Renzoni scored on an RBI single from sophomore Josh Ingham to make it 2-2.

The Rams scored three in the top of the third inning to make it 5-2.  Freshman Dominic Severino relieved Krukiel on the mound for the Blue Devils after the third batter of the inning.

Central got a pair back in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4.  The pieced together four straight hits, and paired with a couple of Ram errors were unable to cut the lead to one.

Renzoni's RBI single in the sixth inning tied the score at 5-5.  It was his second hit of the game.

Rhode Island retook the lead in the eighth inning with a single run off of Severino.   They added four in the ninth to make it 10-5.

The Blue Devils return to Northeast Conference action on Thursday on the road at Bryant.  The two teams will play a single game on Thursday, a doubleheader on Friday and a final single game on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
