Baseball Drops Series Finale at Bryant

Baseball Drops Series Finale at Bryant

The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped its fifth straight game, and fourth straight in Northeast Conference play, with a 3-2 loss at Bryant University in the series finale on Saturday.  Central is now 15-14 overall, and 9-7 in NEC play.

Prior to the weekend series at Bryant the Blue Devils had won seven straight NEC contests.

Bryant maintains first place in the league and is now 10-2 in league action following the four wins over the weekend.

The Blue Devils broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning with a single run to lead 1-0.  Senior Mitch Wells singled to lead off the inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ingham.  With two outs in the inning senior Jake Matuszak drove in Wells for the game's first run.

Bryant answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.  Following a Blue Devil error, both runs were unearned off of freshman starter Casey Brown.

Wells drove in the second run of the game for the Blue Devils in the seventh.  Sophomore Anthony Turgeon reached on a fielder's choice with two outs, and after stealing second, scored on the Wells single to tie the score.

The Bulldogs took the lead in the bottom of the eighth, scoring a single run that was charged to Brown.  With one out and a man on second who had doubled off of Brown, Ingham came in in relief.  After striking out the first batter he faced, he intentionally walked the next batter.  A double fown the left field line scored the go-ahead run.

Brown pitched 7.1 innings but picked up his second loss of the season.  He allowed just two Bryant hits while striking out six batters and walking a pair.  Only one of the three runs scored on Brown were earned.
