Baseball Splits on Saturday at FDU

The Central Connecticut baseball team split a doubleheader on the road at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, dropping the first game 5-3, and rebounding to win game two 12-4.

With the split the Blue Devils are now 20-19 overall and and even 12-12 in Northeast Conference play.  The Knights are 19-18-1 overall and 13-7 in the league.

In the first game the Blue Devils scored once in the first and added runs in the third and fifth to take a 3-1 lead.

The Knights scored four in the fifth to build a 5-3 lead, and the Blue Devils could not answer.

Sophomore J.P. Sportman drove in two more runs, giving him six runs batted in in the first three games of the series.  He was 3-for-4 with three doubles and his two RBI.  Senior Mitch Wells had a pair of hits, including a double, and an RBI.

In game two the bats came alive as the Blue Devils scored 12 runs to earn a split on the day.

Wells drove in four runs in the second game, giving him five RBI on the day.  Central had 13 hits and had five players posts a multi-hit game, including three from junior Tyler McIntyre.

The Blue Devils had four home runs, including a pair by Wells, one by McIntyre and another from junior Mike Washburn.  McIntyre finished the weekend with three home runs, giving him a team-high eight on the season.

Washburn finished with three RBI, while sophomore Dylan DelaCruz had two.

Junior Jack Greenhouse was stellar on the mound to move to 3-1 on the season.  He pitched eight innings and let up eight hits, three earned runs while striking out six batters.

The Blue Devils return to action on Apr. 24 playing on the road at Stony Brook.
