Sophomore outfielder J.P. Sportman hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs, but the Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 4-3 decision on the road at Stony Brook on Tuesday.  The loss drops the Blue Devils to 20-20 on the season.

The Blue Devils wil return to action at home this weekend hosting Wagner in a pivotal Northeast Conference series beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.

On Tuesday the Seawolves struck first with a single run in the bottom of the first inning.

Central answered with two in the fourth, to take a 2-1 lead.  Senior Mitch Wells singled to lead off the inning and then scored on the sixth home run of the season from Sportman.  It was his third home run in the last five games.

Stony Brook took a 3-2 lead on a pair of solo home runs in the fourth inning off of freshman lefty Mike Krukiel

Central answered and tied the score at 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning.  A sacrifice fly from Sportman brought the Blue Devils even.  Sportman now has 22 runs batted in on the season.  Eleven of those RBI have come in the last six games.

Stony Brook would get a single run in the seventh inning that would prove to be the game-winner.  The run, the second unearned run of the game for the Seawolves, came following a throwing error by the Blue Devils.  They had three errors in the game.

Sportman finished the game with a home run and three RBI.   Wells added three hits and scored twice.

Sophomore Tom Coughlin started the game and pitched the first three innings for the Blue Devils.  He allowed one run, it was unearned, and three hits while striking out one.  Freshman Dominic Severino pitched two innings and allowed just one hit while striking out one.

Sophomore Nick Boyd got the loss despite pitching two innings and not allowing an earned run.  He struck out two.
