Baseball Walks Off Against Wagner

Senior Mitch Wells delivered a walk-off single in the 12th inning as the Central Connecticut baseball team defeated Wagner, 4-3.  The Blue Devils (21-20, 13-12 NEC) were led by stellar pitching from senior Harry Glynne and sophomore Josh Ingham.

Senior Jake Matuszak led off the game with a line drive double to the right field corner.  After two-outs junior Tyler McIntyre poked a single through the left side of the infield to Matuszak and give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead.

Wagner loaded the bases with a pair of two-out infield singles, but senior Harry Glynne worked out of the jam unharmed.

Glynne allowed two runs on a pair of hits in the top of the third.  Both runs scored on a two-out single to left by Nick Alfano.

Senior AJ Lowers led off the fifth inning with a walk and sophomore Dylan DelaCruz followed with a single to right center.  Sophomore Anthony Turgeon sacrificed the runners ahead to second and third with one out.  Sophomore Josh Ingham delivered a fly ball to left field, which scored Lowers, and tied the game at 2-2.

In the seventh inning, Glynne almost stranded a leadoff single, but an error with two-out in the inning allowed the run to score.

The Blue Devils tied the score in the bottom of the frame on an RBI ground out by Matuszak.  DelaCruz led off the inning with a single and came around to score the run.

Glynne went seven innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits.  He struck out two batters and walked only one.

Sophomore Nick Boyd worked a scoreless eighth inning and Ingham worked the final four innings of the game to earn the victory.

Ingham singled off of the pitcher in the bottom of the 12th and Matuszak followed with a bunt single.  A throwing error by the pitcher allowed Ingham to move to third on the play.  Wells came up and delivered a line drive to center that scored Ingham and ended the game.

Ingham pitched four innings and allowed no runs and one hit.  He struck out six batters and did not allow a walk.

DelaCruz went four-for-five at the plate for the Blue Devils.  Matuzsack and McIntyre also had multi-hit games for Central.

The Blue Devils and Seahawks will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
