McIntyre Named NEC Player of the Week Again
Senior first baseman Tyler McIntyre was named the Northeast Conference baseball Player of the Week for the second time this season on Monday. McIntyre and the Blue Devils won the season finale at High Point on Sunday, and McIntyre drove in five runs in the win.
The senior pushed his season batting average (.511) above the .500 mark last week. He went 10-for-18 (.555) at the plate and added seven RBI to his ledger over a four-game span that featured a mid-week game against UConn and a weekend series at Big South member High Point.
The 6-foot-4 cleanup hitter put his power skills on display, blasting three doubles and two homers for a 1.055 slugging percentage. Going up against the intrastate rival Huskies, McIntyre connected on two extra-base hits. He cut CCSU's deficit to 6-3 by blasting a solo shot in the eighth inning. His power surge would continue down at High Point.
HPU pitching limited McIntyre to one hit in the series opener, marking only the second time in 11 games this season he has failed to produce at least two hits, but the first baseman bounced back in a big way. Following a three-hit showing in Game 2 of the three-game set, McIntyre put forth a monster performance in the finale. Helping the Blue Devils avoid a sweep, McIntyre went 4-for-5 with a double, homer and five RBI. He has 16 RBI on the season.
