Baseball Wins Series Finale at LIU

The Central Connecticut baseball team earned a weekend split of the road series at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday, holding on for a 6-5 win in the Sunday finale.  Junior Josh Ingham drove in three runs and posted his fifth save of the season in the victory.  LIU won the first two games of the series, and the Blue Devils won the last two.

With the win the Blue Devils are 13-12 overall and 7-5 in Northeast Conference play.

The Blue Devils struck first with four two-out runs in the top of the first inning.  With the bases loaded Ingham doubled to center field to score all three runs and make it 3-0.  Following a single from freshman Connor Fitzsimons, junior Anthony Turgeon singled in the fourth run of the inning to give Central the four run lead.

The fifth run scored on a bunt from Fitzsimons in the third inning, pushing the lead to 5-0.

LIU scored a single run in the fourth to cut it to 5-1.

Central got the run back in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from junior J.P. Sportman.   The lead was 6-1.

The Blackbirds threatened with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it 6-5.

Ingham closed the door in the ninth inning, striking out one and facing only three batters.  The save was his fifth of the season and his 16th in his career, extending the school record he set on Saturday.

Sophomore Dominic Severino picked up the win with six innings pitched, allowing four Blackbird runs on 10 hits.  He struck out nine batters in the game, and walked just one.  He is 1-1 on the season with the victory.

Ingham ended the game with two hits and three RBI.  His save was his second in as many games.  Senior Bobby Migliazza and Turgeon each had a pair of hits.
