Hollomon: FCS National Offensive Player of the Week

Central Connecticut senior Rob Hollomon was named FCS National Offensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network for his performance in the Blue Devils' upset victory over #7/13 Towson on Saturday night.  Hollomon led CCSU football to its second win over a CAA program and its first victory over a ranked opponent in eight years.

In addition to Hollomon, TSN also recognized North Dakota State defensive end Kyle Emanuel, Wofford kicker/punter David Martin and Fordham running back Chase Edmonds with national weekly awards for defense, special teams and rookie, respectively.

Hollomon earns national honors after totaling 280 all-purpose yards in Saturday's victory.  The Preseason All-American posted 209 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns against a team that advanced  to the NCAA FCS Championship Game last season.

In all, Hollomon touched the ball 36 times to pile up 280 all-purpose yards, and it was his last touch that put CCSU ahead for good.

Hollomon, who had a long run of 74 yards earlier in the game, plunged in from one yard out to give CCSU a 31-27 lead with 00:36 remaining on the clock.  His first touchdown of the game, a 3-yard run, broke a 14-14 tie with under 3:00 remaining in the third quarter.

Hollomon, who is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing campaigns, ran the ball 23 times for 161 yards.  In addition to averaging 7.0 yards per carry on the ground, Hollomon hauled in a game-high nine receptions for 48 yards.

Hollomon was previously named TSN National Offensive Player of the Week in October of 2012 when he posted 287 yards from scrimmage in a victory over Saint Francis U.

Hollomon was also named Northeast Conference Offesnive Player of the Week on Monday.

The Blue Devils (1-0) will open at home Saturday night against Albany.  CCSU and Albany are scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff on Arute Field.  Fans are encouraged to buy tickets in advance by visiting CCSUTickets.com.
