Football Hosts Howard in NAACP Harmony Classic

Central Connecticut is proud to host the Bison of Howard for the 2014 NAACP Harmony Classic at Arute Field.  This is the second time that CCSU has hosted the Harmony Classic, but it is the first time the game will be played on campus.  In 2008, the Blue Devils hosted the contest at Veterans Memorial Stadium in New Britain.

Series History • This is the first meeting between the Blue Devils and the Bison of Howard.  However, CCSU is 2-0 all-time against current members of the MEAC.  The Blue Devils defeated North Carolina Central, 35-23, in the NAACP Harmony Classic in 2008.  CCSU also has a victory over Delaware State, 28-10, from 2008.  The Blue Devils played NC Central and DSU in back-to-back games during the 2008 season.

Lytton Gets Going • Sophomore Brenden Lytton entered last week's game with 204 career rushing yards, he nearly doubled that total by rushing for 193 yards on 30 carries against the Sacred Heart Pioneers.  Lytton scored two touchdowns in the game and added 27 receiving yards on two receptions to finish the day with 220 all-purpose yards.

Remaining Schedule • The Blue Devils will wrap up the regular season next Saturday (11/22) at Saint Francis U. The game can be heard on FoxSportsRadio 1410 AM and seen on NECFrontRow.com.

Holmes Joins Elite Group • Senior Tyrell Holmes became the 16th player in CCSU history with 80 or more career receptions with his fourth catch two weeks ago at Bryant.  It was just his 19th game as a wide receiver after playing defensive back his first two seasons.

Another Block for the Special Teams • The Blue Devil special teams have recorded a block in four straight games after blocking a punt and field goal against Sacred Heart.  CCSU also blocked a field goal attempt at Bryant on Nov. 1, a field goal against Wagner on Oct. 25 and blocked a punt at Robert Morris on Oct. 18.

Blocked Punt for Touchdown • In Saturday's loss to Sacred Heart, sophomore Kier Minor blocked a punt with the loose ball rolling into the end zone where it was recovered for a touchdown by senior Josh Alaeze.  It was CCSU's first blocked punt that resulted in a score since the opening week of the 2007 season.  That punt was also blocked and recovered in the end zone in a similar fashion to last Saturday's play.

Three 1,000-Yard Seasons • Senior Rob Hollomon set CCSU's career rushing record three weeks ago against Robert Morris, but he is now just 63 yards shy of rushing for 1,000 yards for the third straight season.  Hollomon has rushed for 3,493 yards as a Blue Devil and if he can reach 1,000 yards this year he would be the first CCSU football player with three seasons of 1,000+ rushing yards.

SanGiacomo's 4,000 • Junior quarterback Nick SanGiacomo has thrown for 1,664 yards this season and 4,127 in his career.  With his 77th passing yard at Robert Morris on Oct. 18 he moved past Bill Van Klock  (3,776) for fourth place on CCSU's career list.  Scott Dolch (2001-04) holds the all-time record of 5,728.  Next up for SanGiacomo is Sam Tirone (1992-94) who threw for 4,413 yards in his career.
