Men Top FDU 69-62 on Saturday
Senior Robby Ptacek scored 21 points, grabbed five rebounds and hit 8-of-10 from the free-throw line as the Central Connecticut men's basketball team topped Fairleigh Dickinson 69-62 in New Britain on Saturday.
As a team the Blue Devils hit an impressive 25-of-28 free-throws, and created nine steals, as they improved to 10-10 overall and 7-3 in Northeast Conference play.
The win moves the Blue Devils to 8-2 at home this season. Senior David Simmons had 10 points, three rebounds and four steals in a season-high 35 minutes of action. Simmons was 4-of-4 from the field in the game, and has now made 31-of-38 from the field on the season.
Freshman Kyle Vinales added 17 points and a team-high four assists. He was 8-of-8 from the line, and added four rebounds.
Central trailed 27-26 at the half, but outscored Fairleigh Dickinson 43-35 after halftime, hitting 11-of-25 from the field and 21-of-24 from the line.
Four Blue Devils scored in double-figures, including senior Ken Horton who had 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting. He was 2-of-2 from the line and had three steals and two blocks.
Horton moved over 1,800 career points in the game, finishing with 1,808, just two points shy of the 10th spot on the NEC's all-time scoring list.
Ptacek's 21 give him 1,388 for his career, moving into 12th place all-time for the Blue Devils. He hit his first eight free-throws before missing a pair to end the game. He is 97-of-105 from the line this season, good for 92.4 percent.
The Blue Devils return to action on Thursday night on the road at St. Francis (NY) beginning at 7 p.m.
