Men's Hoop Falls at Home, 67-59, to Quinnipiac

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team hit just one of its final 20 shots from the field, and dropped a 67-59 decision at home to Quinnipiac on Sunday.  Central scored just two points in the final 10 minutes of the game, and falls to 7-7 in Northeast Conference play this season with its fourth straight loss.

The Blue Devils are 10-14 overall.  Quinnipiac meanwhile, moves to 15-10 overall and 8-6 in NEC play, and will hold any tiebreaker over the Blue Devils after winning both games between the two teams this week.

Central led 57-51 with 10:24 on the clock in the second half, following a long three from senior Ken Horton.  The Blue Devils would go ice cold from the field in the game's final minutes, with a lone jump shot from sophomore Terrell Allen accounting for its only scoring.

The Bobcats outscored Central 16-2 in the game's final 10 minutes, and turned a six-point deficit into an eight point victory.

Quinnipiac had led at the half, 39-33, but the Blue Devils stormed back in the first 10 minutes of the second half to take a six point lead.  Down 46-41 with 15:32 on the clock, Central used a 16-5 run to take the 57-51 lead.  During the run the Blue Devils hit 7-of-10 from the field, including the long three by Horton to give the Blue Devils their biggest lead.

Central ended the game hitting 22-of-63 from the field (34.9 percent), and just 4-of 19 from three (21.1 percent).  They outrebounded the Bobcats 39-38, after being outrebounded by 19 earlier in the week in Hamden.

Freshman Kyle Vinales finished with a game-high 27 points.  He was 9-of-18 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line.  Sophomore Terrell Allen had eight points and seven rebounds, while junior Joe Efese added four points and nine rebounds.

Freshman Malcolm McMillan pitched in with seven rebounds and four assists.  Horton finished with seven points and five boards, but shot just 3-of-18 from the floor.

Quinnipiac was led by James Johnson's 20 points.  Ike Azotam had 15 points and a game-high 10 boards.

Central is back in action next week, playing on the road at St. Francis (PA) on Thursday and Robert Morris on Saturday night.
