Men's Basketball Faces Saint Francis U on the Road Thursday Night

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team hits the road for a Northeast Conference tilt at Saint Francis U on Thursday night. The regular-season is headed down the homestretch with just four games to play and the Blue Devils and the Red Flash both jockeying for postseason positioning.

The Blue Devils are 12-15 overall and 5-8 in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash are 14-11 overall and 8-6 in NEC play. The teams opened league play against each other on Dec. 29, with the Blue Devils holding on for a 72-68 win in New Britain, CT.  

SFU is currently in a four-way tie for third in the league standings, while CCSU holds a one-game lead for the final NEC tournament berth. The top eight teams qualify for the league tournament, while the top four teams will host a quarterfinal game.

THURSDAY'S GAME • Central Connecticut travels to Saint Francis U to begin its final NEC road trip of the regular season. The game is available to stream online, for free, at www.NECFrontRow.com
SERIES HISTORY • The Blue Devils and Red Flash are meeting for the 41st time in the series. CCSU holds a 22-18 lead in the series and has two of the last three meetings. Central won, 84-83 in overtime, on Jan. 21, 2017 in the last meeting at DeGol.
LAST TIME OUT • Central Connecticut fell to Sacred Heart at home on Saturday, 67-50, at Detrick Gymnasium. The Pioneers shot 59 percent from the field after halftime, while limiting the Blue Devils to 33 percent to pull away. Junior Tyler Kohl was the only Blue Devil in double-figures, scoring 19 points with a team-high eight rebounds. The Blue Devils got off to a promising start and led, 10-9, following a three-pointer by Kohl in the early going. The Pioneers responded with 11 unanswered points over a 3:09 span to build a double-digit lead that it would not relinquish. Sacred Heart scored the first eight points of the second half and would score eight unanswered to open a 13-1 run midway through the period. The spurt would give SHU its largest lead of the day at 53-33 with 9:35 to play. Sacred Heart would extend the lead to as much as 62-38 with 4:28 to play and Central would be unable to get any closer than the final margin, dropping its fifth straight game. 
UP NEXT • CCSU travels to Robert Morris on Saturday before it closes the regular season with home games against Wagner (Feb. 22) and St. Francis Brooklyn (Feb. 24).
