Head coach Donyell Marshall and the Central Connecticut men's basketball team announced its non-conference schedule for the 2018-19 season on Tuesday. The Blue Devils' schedule includes 13 games against opponents from seven conferences and is highlighted by an appearance in the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic.
"We're looking forward to the upcoming season and building upon the foundation we've laid the past two seasons," said Marshall. "Our team will get the chance to face teams from bigger conferences, while also having the experience of travelling to Jamaica. The schedule will challenge us, but it will also help prepare us for the Northeast Conference season."
The 13-game slate includes opponents from the America East, ACC, BIG EAST, MEAC, Ohio Valley, Pac-12 and West Coast conferences. CCSU will begin the campaign with an exhibition against Arcadia at Detrick Gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 27.
For the fourth straight season, Central will begin the regular season against local-rival Hartford on Tuesday, Nov. 6. The Blue Devils will travel to Chase Arena for the opener for the second consecutive year. The teams are in the midst of a five-year agreement, with the series set to return to New Britain in 2019-20.
The Blue Devils will travel to Georgetown on Nov. 10 as part of the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic. The Hoyas, coached by Patrick Ewing, are serving as a campus host for the event and this will be the first meeting between the schools, which are coached by a pair of former BIG EAST and NBA standouts.
Central will return to New Britain for its home-opener against UMass Lowell on Tuesday, Nov. 13, before travelling to Jamaica for a pair of games.
CCSU will travel to Montego Bay, Jamaica, to play Austin Peay (Nov. 16) and Florida A&M (Nov. 18). The Blue Devils will also travel to Loyola Marymount (Nov. 21) as part of the event.
The Blue Devils will return home for the second of its three home games when it hosts Pine Manor College on Nov. 25. A trip to North Carolina A&T will follow for a game on Nov. 29. CCSU defeated the Aggies in New Britain, last season.
Central will face Virginia Tech for the first time in program-history on Dec. 1 before returning home for its final non-conference home game. The Blue Devils will host Penn State Wilkes-Barre at Detrick Gymnasium on Dec. 8.
The non-conference slate will conclude with a trio of road contests. CCSU will travel to Providence (Dec. 16), Maine (Dec. 22) and Oregon State (Dec. 29) before beginning the NEC slate in the new year.
