Sunday's final round of the Cornell Invitational was canceled due to continued rain in the Ithaca area, shortening the tournament to one round. Central Connecticut tied for fifth in the 15-team field. The Blue Devils shot 297 over the only 18 holes of play. Freshman Greg Beloin collected a tie for fifth on the individual leaderboard in his collegiate debut. He posted a 71 at the par 72 Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Itacha, NY on Saturday. Delaware earned the team title with a 287, while Siena senior Dan Abbondandolo picked up medalist honors with a 67.
Senior Tim Buczak and sophomore Tom Ursa both had 75s, while sophomore Eric Hawerchuk carded a 76. Freshman Keith Kwasnik shot a 97 in his collegiate debut.
What was expected to be a three-round event was shortened to one round after a consistent downpour throughout the day Saturday and all morning Sunday kept scores low, as 10 of the 15 teams in the field shot under 300 as a team.
Central Connecticut will compete at Yale's Macdonald Cup next weekend. The two-day event on the Yale Golf Course gets underway on Saturday, Oct. 4.
