Blue Devils Claim Third Place at NEIGAs, Ursa Leads Way with Seventh Place Effort

Central Connecticut broke out of a tie for fourth with a final round 296 at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships. With the second best team score of the tournament, the Blue Devils grabbed sole possession of third place. Sophomore Tom Ursa led CCSU with a seventh place effort. He followed up his opening round 75 with a two over par 74 at the Captains Course in Brewster, MA. Bryant collected the team title with rounds of 313 and 291. The Bulldogs vaulted past day one leader Sacred Heart, which shot 302-303. Sacred Heart's Matt Belizze won a four-way playoff to earn medalist honors.

All five Blue Devil golfers improved on Tuesday. Sophomores Eric Hawerchuk and Sam Pelletier tied for 13th in the 211-player field. Pelletier followed up an opening round 79 with an even par 72. It was the best effort by a CCSU golfer. Hawerchuk, meanwhile, shot 78-73. Freshman Keith Kwasnik (81-77) and senior Tim Buczak (86-79) rounded out the Blue Devil field.

Nichols (315-302) and Dartmouth (311-306) tied for fourth place on the 42-team leaderboard at 617. Belizze (76-71) won the playoff on the first hole, defeating teammate Pat Fillian (72-75), Bryant's Alex Daley (76-71) and UMass-Lowell's Anthony Gallardo (79-68). All four players shot 147 over the two-day event.

Central Connecticut opened the tournament with a 313.

CCSU's fall season is now complete.
