Sophomore Kevin Josephson tied for sixth place overall to lead Central Connecticut State University to a runner-up finish at the New England Championships on Tuesday. The Blue Devils recorded a 36-hole score of 588 to place second on the par 72 Captains Golf Course in Brewster, MA. Josephson shot 71 on Monday and carded a one over par 73 to finish in 144 on Tuesday.
CCSU finished six strokes back of champion University of Connecticut. The Huskies placed three golfers in the top 10 and finished with a score of 582 in the two rounds of play. Bryant University's Jason Thresher took home medalist honors, scoring 141 for the tournament.
Sophomore Greg Beloin, freshman Dan Fanion, and juniors Eric Hawerchuk and Sam Pelletier all finished in the top 30 out of the 194 player field. Beloin tied for 10th with a two-round score of 146 (72-74), while Fanion carded a 147 (75-72) to tie for 15th overall.
Hawerchuk tied for 22nd and Pelletier tied for 28th in the tournament. Hawerchuk shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish with a total of 151, while Pelletier was one stroke back this afternoon, carding a 77 to finish in 153 for the Blue Devils.
Josephson won the longest drive competition at the championships, recording a drive of 337 yards. The sophomore received All-New England recognition for his top six performance.
