The Central Connecticut men's golf team finished third at the
76th Annual NEIGA Championship which completed on Tuesday. Junior
Kevin
Josephson shot a day-two 71 (-1) and advanced to a playoff to
determine the individual champion. Josephson lost on the second
playoff hole to finish second in the tournament. The Blue Devils
shot a two-day total of 593 to finish third, eight strokes behind
Rhode Island who claimed the championship.
Josephson was named an All-New England selection for his second
place finish.
The NEIGA Championship was held at the par-72 Captains Course in
Brewster, MA.
Josephson shot a two-day total of 143, good for one under par over
the two day tournament. Teammate Justin
Hughes finished in a tie for 10th place with a two-day total of
148 (+4). Daniel
Morgan and Dan
Fanion each shot 151 (+7) and Greg
Beloin shot a 153 (+9) to round out the scoring for the Blue
Devils. All five scorers for CCSU finished in the top-24.
Josephson had already posted a pair of tournament victories this
fall, capturing the CCSU Invitational and then winning medalist
honors at the Macdonald Cup held at Yale a few weeks ago. Last
season Josephson was named All-New England after his performance at
the 75th NEIGA Championship. He finished in a tie for sixth
place.
The Blue Devils have now finished in the top five in five of the
last six championships. They finished second in the tournament in
2009, and third in 2008. In 2007 they finished ninth, in 2006 they
were third and in 2005 they finished fourth. Central has won the
team title 15 times, most recently in 1995.
Rhode Island won the team title for the 11th time in 13 years with
a team score of 585, followed by the University of Connecticut at
586. CCSU shot 593, followed by Holy Cross (598) and Bryant
(611).
The NEIGA (New England Intercollegiate Golf Association) hosted its
championship for the 76th time, and 182 individual golfers
competed. There were 37 teams from Divisions I, II and III
participating in th two-day tournament at the Captains Course, a
36-hole layout on Cape Cod.
The NEIGA Tournament completes the fall season for the men's team.
