Central Connecticut freshman Daniel Morgan was named the Northeast Conference Men's Golf Rookie of the Year on Thursday afternoon. His teammate, junior Kevin Josephson earned a spot on the All-NEC Second Team. Both golfers played every round for the Blue Devils this season and contributed to Central's New England Championship.
Morgan claims Rookie of the Year honors, after posting the lowest average score per round (75.50) among league freshmen. Morgan placed third at the CCSU Blue Devil Invitational, shooting a 73, 70 to total a 141 in just his second tournament appearance as a collegian.
He continued to turn in impressive scorecards throughout the season, ranking a team-high 10th at the Connecticut Cup (79,73,73-225) and 6th at the New England Championships (76,72-178). Morgan ended his freshman campaign tied for 16th at the NEC Championship. He fired consistent rounds of 76-77-78=231 to land second among league rookies and third for the Blue Devils.
Josephson earned a second team All-NEC selection after earning three NEC Golfer of the Week honors during the 2010-11 campaign. He finished in the top-10 on five occasions and won a pair of tournaments during the Fall.
First capturing the Blue Devil Invitational with a 72 and 69 for a 141 total score, he followed that performance with a (67, 69) 136 at The Macdonald Cup of Yale. His first round score of 67 at the Macdonald Cup was the lowest 18-hole score of any league golfer throughout the season.
Josephson also secured a pair of runner-up finishes at the NEIGA Championship and the New England Championship. At the NEIGA he shot a 143, and at the New England Championships a 145.
Morgan, Josephson and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action in the Fall.
