The Central Connecticut men's golf team stands in eighth place after the first two rounds at the Adams Cup of Newport on Monday. Central shot a team total of 297 in the first round and 290 in the second, good for a 587, just eight shots out of third place.
The Adams Cup of Newport is a two-day, 54-hole tournament held on Sept. 19-20. The first two rounds of play were held Monday at Newport National Golf Club, while the final 18 holes will be played at Carnegie Abbey Club on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
The University of Georgia, the defending national champions, leads shooting a 564 in the first two rounds. They stand three shots ahead of Central Florida (567) and 15 ahead of Texas Tech and Yale (579).
Sophomore Daniel Morgan and junior William Finnerty lead the Blue Devils with a two-round score of 145, good for a tie for 17th place. Morgan went 71-74, and Finnerty 74-71.
Senior Kevin Josephson is tied for 31st, after following up a round one 79 with a second round 69, one of the best rounds of the day among the 95 golfers on the course. He was one of 10 golfers to break 70 on the day.
Junior Dan Fanion shot 75-76 and stands in a tie for 46th with a 151. Freshman Monte Mullen is tied for 64th with a 155 (77-78).
The Blue Devils stand in eighth place out of 19 total teams. The final 18 holes will be played at Carnegie Abbey Club on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
