DeJohn First, Men's Golf Third at FDU Knights Invitational

Senior Matthew DeJohn shot a round two score of even par 71 to capture Medilist Honors at the FDU Invitational on Monday afternoon.  DeJohn's score helped lead the Blue Devils to a third place finish after producing the day's top team score of 308.

DeJohn's two-day total of 146 (75-71) was four shots better than the second place finisher.  He was the only golfer in the field of 74 to shoot two scores of 75 or lower.

"Conditions were very difficult out there today and I couldn't be more proud of the way Matt and our entire team played," head coach Kevin Giancola said on Monday following the second round.  "The boys played valiantly today and Matt played a brilliant round."

DeJohn's tournament victory is the first of his career at CCSU.  He has been the top finisher for the Blue Devils in each of their last two tournaments.

Junior Monte Mullen finished in 12th place after shooting a 76 on day two.  Freshman Nick Direda fired a 79 on day two to finish in a tie for 20th place overall.  Classmate Matt Hills shot 82 to finish tied for 36th and sophomore Connor Murphy was tied for 49th after a day two score of 83.

All five scoring players either matched or bettered their first round scores, and took a total of nine strokes of their day one team total.  Their 308 score on Monday was two shots better than the next lowest round of the day.

Freshman Bryant Bolden, competing as an individual, shot 82-83 and finished in a tie for 41st place.
