The Central Connecticut men's soccer team defeated Manhattan on senior captain Yan Klukowski's game winning goal in the 30th minute off of an assist from sophomore Connor Smith. The Blue Devils are now 4-1-1 this season and have won two in a row.
CCSU broke a scoreless tie when Smith played a ball across to Klukowski from the left side. The midfielder was left one on one with the Jasper goalkeeper John Ciano and put it away for the only goal of the game. Klukowski, a MAC Hermann Trophy candidate, leads the Blue Devils in goals and points with four and nine, respectively. Central held a nine to seven shot advantage through the first half and recorded two corner kicks while the Jaspers failed to tally one.
After 10 shots, seven corner kicks and two ejections, the second half ended with no scores. One member of each team was sent off in the second half for receiving two yellow cards over the course of the match. Manhattan finished the game with a 15 to 11 shot advantage but only recorded one corner kick to the Blue Devils' eight.
CCSU goalkeeper Paul Armstrong notched his third shutout of the
season on a single save, while Ciano made two saves in the loss.
The Blue Devils are now 4-1-1 on the season and will continue their
road trip on Tuesday September 23 when they take on Virginia at
7:00 p.m. The Jaspers fall to 1-5-0 this year and will next be on
the road against Long Island on Septebmer 24 at 7:00 p.m.
