Central Connecticut Places Three on All-NEC Men's Soccer Teams

Senior captains Yan Klukowski and David Tyrie received All-Northeast Conference First Team honors, while sophomore Robert Cavener was selected to the All-NEC Second Team. Klukowski and Tyrie have received all-conference honors in each of their four years at CCSU. Cavener, on the other hand, received his first All-NEC award after a stellar sophomore season. The awards were presented Thursday evening at the conference's banquet. On the eve of the NEC Tournament, the reception was held at tourny host Monmouth University.

Klukowski and Tyrie capped off wonderful careers, highlighted by last season's NEC Championship and NCAA run, with these all-conference honors. Klukowski earns a first team selection for the third time, also receiving the honor in 2005 and 2006. The crafty midfielder was named NEC Rookie of the Year 2005 and received All-NEC Second Team accolades in 2007. The Wiltshire, England native led the Blue Devils this season with eight goals, five assists and 21 total points.

Tyrie received first team honors for the third straight year as a Blue Devil. As the defensive leader of CCSU, Tyrie was named NEC Defensive Player of the Year and NEC Tournament MVP a season ago. In his freshman season he received second team honors. In this, his final season in New Britain, the daunting defender tallied five goals out of the back. Directing traffic as the Blue Devils' central defender, the Norwich-Norfolk, England native led the team to six shutouts this season.

Cavener, who was an integral piece of last year's NEC Championship and NCAA Sweet 16 team, received All-NEC honors for the first time this season. Playing central midfield, the Tynemouth, England native recorded two game winning goals against St. Francis (PA) and Holy Cross on the road.

CCSU finished this season with a record of 9-7-2 after winning three out of their final four games.
