Cavener Earns CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Honors

Junior captain Robert Cavener was awarded for his work on and off the field, receiving CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 1 honors. Cavener earned a first team spot for his accomplishments this year. The Tynemouth, England native is a pre-finance major and will now be placed on the National Ballot for consideration for Academic All-American.

Cavener really came into his own a season ago, receiving individual accolades following the season. The midfielder was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team and the NSCAA/adidas All-North Atlantic Region Third Team in 2008. In 2007 he helped lead CCSU to a NEC Championship and Sweet 16 run in the NCAA tournament.

As a junior captain, Cavener has led the Blue Devils on and off the field. He has recorded a conference-leading eight assists on the season, tallying three of them in a 3-0 win over Hartford. The midfielder also received Tournament MVP honors at the Nike New Hampshire Classic after helping Central win the season-opening tournament.

Cavener and the Blue Devils will be continuing there road trip tomorrow, Sunday November 1 with a 1:00 p.m. match against Mount St. Mary's. CCSU will then return home for senior day on Friday November 6, hosting Quinnipiac.
