Terrell Whitting Scores in Overtime as Blue Devils Top Fordham 2-1 on Saturday Night
Sophomore Terrell Whitting scored with under two minutes to play
in the second overtime as the Central Connecticut men's soccer team
topped Fordham 2-1 on Saturday night in New Britain. The Blue
Devils, now 3-4 on the season, tied the game with under two minutes
to play in the first half. After allowing a Fordham goal 1:44 into
the game, they didn't let the Rams score again in the 2-1 win.
Central returns to action on Oct. 1 hosting Mount St. Mary's at
Willow Brook Park beginning at 8 p.m.
Fordham struck less than two minutes into the game. Andre Seidenthal took a centering pass from the right side from teammate Tim Richardson and beat the Central keeper at 1:44.
Central tied the game with under two minutes to play in the half, making it 1-1. Senior Shawn Buchanan took a pass from sophomore Joel Diamand and beat the Fordham keeper to the lower left side of the goal to knot the match.
Neither team could manage a goal in the second half, but both had their chances. Fordham held a 7-5 advantage in shots in the period, but it was the Blue Devils who had the 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
Fordham had the best chance to score in the extra frames before the CCSU goal, and it came in the first overtime. On a corner kick Richardson headed it towards the goal and Central's James Perkins made the stop.
Sophomore keeper Anthony Occhialini played the first half for the Blue Devils, making one save and allowing an early goal. Perkins played the second half and overtime, making three saves without allowing a goal and earning the victory.
