Men's Soccer Falls to FDU 1-0
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team fell to NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson tonight by a score of 1-0. The game was played at Willow Brook Park in New Britain. With the loss the Blue Devils fall to 3-8-2 on the season and 0-4-2 in Northeast Conference action.
The first half saw Central take the offinsive early registering three early shots, two of which were stopped by FDU goalkeeper Jacob Lissek. FDU took the lead in the 39th minute on Dominic Reinold's sixth goal of the season. Central senior Robert Cavener attempted to pass the ball back to goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini, but the pass was off the mark and Reinold raced to the ball and quickly redirected it into the empty net.
Central launched a strong attack in the second half that included eight shots, three of which were stopped by the FDU keeper. Central's best scoring chance came when junior Eduardo Ortiz found sophomore Terrell Whitting streaking down the middle of the field, but FDU's keeper was up to the task again. Laissek sprawled out deflecting the shot with his legs, preserving the victory for the Knights.
Lissek made five saves for the Knights in the shutout victory. Occhialini made a pair of saves for the Blue Devils in the loss.
The men's soccer team returns to action Sunday against Sacred Heart at Arute Field. It will be the final home game of the season for the Blue Devils.
