Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision on Senior Day on Sunday Afternoon

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Sacred Heart in New Britain on Sunday afternoon. Central celebrated senior day prior to kickoff, honoring six players who were playing at home for the final time in their career. With the loss Central drops to 3-9-2 overall and 0-5-2 in Northeast Conference action. Sacred Heart moves to 10-4-1 and 5-2-1 in league play.

The teams played to a scoreless first half, with neither team generating a true scoring chance before the break. Sacred Heart held a 5-2 advantage in shots, but each team had only one shot on goal.

The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the 77th minutes of action. From midfield, Lusiano Dadario fed the ball into the box and it was tapped by Justin Brewer. Marcello Castro took the pass just outside the goalkeeper box and beat the Central keeper to the left side for the goal. It was his fifth goal of the season.

Sophomore Anthony Occhialini made one save in goal for the Blue Devils. Alex Fait made three saves for the Pioneers to record his 10th win.

Central celebrated senior day prior to the game, and honored six seniors playing their final game on campus at CCSU. Robert Cavener, Connor Smith, Persis Oware, Joseph Laryea, Jared Spieker and Blaine Veldhuis were honored prior to kickoff.

The Blue Devils will finish the regular season on the road, beginning with a trip to Long Island University on Oct. 29 at 4 p.m.
