Men's Soccer Posts Another Shutout

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team defeated St. Francis (PA) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Willow Brook Park.  The Blue Devils were led by goals from junior Steven Bailey and senior Aaron Durr.  The win improves the Blue Devils to 6-6 on the season and 3-1 in Northeast Conference action.

Central took the early lead on the long strike from Bailey.  After stopping a pair of Blue Devil shots from close range, St. Francis (PA) goalkeeper Darius Motazed faltered on Bailey's shot.  Bailey gathered the ball and launched a low-lined shot from thirty yards out that clipped the keeper and slipped into the right side of the net.

The Blue Devils added to their lead in the 37th minute when Durr headed his team to a two nothing lead.  Senior Jesse Menzies lined up a free kick from the left side of the net, Durr came across the field and redirected the kick into the net.

After the half the Blue Devils were led by junior goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini and the other defenders.  St. Francis came out with a strong offensive attack in the second half.  The Red Flash launched 10 shots, but Occhialini stopped all five of the shots on goal.

With the victory the Blue Devils assured that they will finish the day no lower than a tie for second place in the NEC standings.  The Blue Devils return to action next weekend at Bryant.  That game will be played at 3:00 p.m. on October 14.
