Central Connecticut freshman Stephen Walmsley was named adidas/Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. The freshman forward netted his first collegiate goal in Central's win over Bryant on Friday.
Walmsley, a native of Liverpool, England, joined in on Central's offensive explosion on Friday. Late in the second half, he took a pass from junior Jesse Menzies and delivered a shot from 25 yards out that beat the keeper. That goal stretched the Blue Devils' lead to 4-1, in an eventual 4-2 victory.
That victory, paired with a Fairleigh Dickinson loss to Monmouth, put the Blue Devils in sole possession of first place on Friday night. Because Central only played once this weekend, the Blue Devils fell a single point behind the Knights in the standings following Sunday's action.
The Blue Devils are currently on a conference best four game winning streak. During the streak, Central has scored 11 goals while allowing only three.
The Blue Devils will return to action this Thursday night. They will take on Long Island at 7 p.m. at Willow Brook Park. Then on Sunday, the Blue Devils will travel to Sacred Heart that game will begin at 12 p.m.
