The Central Connecticut men's soccer team opened its 2012 season with a convincing 2-0 shutout win over Yale on Friday night. CCSU is now 1-0, Yale is 0-1. The Blue Devils held a dominating 19-3 edge in total shots, and a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.
Central's second goal of the game came in the 53rd minute of action from senior midfielder Jesse Menzies. The goal came unassisted on an individual effort from Menzies who beat the keeper and placed his shot into the top of the net.
Senior keeper Anthony Occhialini played every minute in goal for the Blue Devils on the night of their home opener. He recorded his first shut-out of the 2012 season and the 11th of his career as a Blue Devil. Occhialini, with help from his stout Central defense, tallied one save from one shot-on-goal.
The Blue Devils handled the majority of shooting on Friday night posting 19 shots to the Bulldog's three. Central came out firing in the first period dominating the shot column nine to one. In the second half, Central did not let up taking 10 shots compared to zero from Yale.
This Tuesday, September 3rd the Blue Devils will be back in action on the road facing in-state rival Hartford.
