The Central Connecticut men's soccer team will host Yale University tonight at home on the newly constructed CCSU Soccer Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Last season the Blue Devils posted a record of 10-8-1 (7-3 NEC) and shared the Northeast Conference Regular Season Championship with Sacred Heart and Monmouth. Central advanced to the NEC Tournament for the fifth time in school history but fell to Monmouth in the semifinal round.
Shaun Green enters his 28th season as the Blue Devils head coach after being named NEC Coach of the Year in 2011 for the second time in his career (2003, 2011). Green has recorded a career total of 239 wins with 214 losses and 51 draws (.524 win percentage). He is the only head coach in CCSU men's soccer history to post 12 seasons of ten wins or more.
Central returns 2011 All-NEC First Team selection senior Thomas Obasi and second team selections seniors Reece Wilson and Mamoudou Dioubate. The senior trio played in all 19 games for the Blue Devils a season ago and bring a wealth of experience to the pitch in 2012. Wilson led the team in goals scored last year tallying six on the season along with three assists. Obasi accounted for three of Central's 24 goals in 2011. Dioubate netted one goal and tallied one assist.
Yale defeated Central Connecticut last season 2-0 and is coming off of an eight-win season. Tonight's match will serve as the Blue Devils' 2012 season and home opener and will also be the first match ever played on the new CCSU Soccer Field.
