Rutgers Tops CCSU, Bogle Scores Fourth

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a decision on the road Wednesday night to Rutgers 2-1.  The Blue Devils fall to 2-5-1 on the season after the loss, they are now 0-4 on the road in 2012. Rutgers improves to 4-3-0 overall, 0-1 in the Big East.

Senior goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini recorded four saves off of six shots-on-goal, surpassing 140 saves in his career.  He now has 143 saves as a Blue Devil, 20 in 2012. Occhialini picked up the loss and is now 1-3-1 this season in goal for the Blue Devils.

Each team showed stout defense in the first period as both clubs headed into the locker room at halftime knotted up 0-0.  Central out-shot the Scarlet Knights in the first period six shots to three.

The first score of the match came in the 49th minute of action as Mitchell Taintor of Rutgers fired a low shot past Occhialini to take the 1-0 lead.  His goal came off of save and a rebound, the assist went to teammate Nathan Bruccoleri.

Just eight minutes later, Rutgers again capitalized off of a free kick opportunity as Kene Eze of Rutgers put in another rebounded shot into the back of the net.

In the game's 62nd minute, Junior Eddy Bogle scored an unassisted goal in the second period for Central.  Rutgers keeper Kevin McMullen failed on a ball clearance, allowing Bogle to come away with the steal and the go ahead score into an empty net.  The score gives Bogle four on the year, he now leads the team.

The Blue Devils will open up Northeast Conference play at home on Sunday against Monmouth.  The match is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the new CCSU Soccer Field.
