CCSU Stuns SFNY 3-2 in Final Seconds

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team beat out the St. Francis (NY) Terriers 3-2 in heartbreaking fashion scoring in the final seconds of the match.  Central improves to 5-5-2 overall and 3-0-1 in Northeast Conference play.  The Terriers fall to 5-7-1 (2-3-0 NEC).

Neither team could manage a score in the first half of play, all five combined goals were scored in the second half.  Central held the advantage in shots after the first period of regulation six to four.

Wasting no time in the opening minutes of the second half, Kevin Correa of St. Francis (NY) scored his first of two scores on the night in the 47th minute of action.  The goal was an unassisted shot from 15 yards away after Correa beat the Central defender off of the dribble.

Freshman Blue Devil Ben Knight answered the Terrier score in the 69th minute netting his first goal of the season.  Senior Reece Wilson assisted the goal and Knight punched it in off of a rebound.

Correa scored his second goal of the night off of a shot inside the CCSU box.  The goal, which was Correa's eighth, was scored in the 79th minute of the second half.

Less than two minutes later, freshman Freddy Metellus put the first goal of his career in the back of the net in the 81st minute.  Wilson assisted the goal once again feeding Metellus into the breakaway score.  Wilson now has five assists this season, tied with teammate Thomas Obasi for the team lead.

In the final seconds of regulation, Knight cashed in the game winning score with less than 30 seconds left in the match.  The net was left unattended by the Terrier keeper after a misplayed shot and Knight took advantage by putting in the game sealing goal.  Knight scored the first and second goals of his career on Friday night.

The final shot tally favored the Blue Devils who out-shot the Terriers 12 to seven.  Senior goalkeeper Anthony Occhialini played every minute in the box for Central.

After a three game road trip, Central Connecticut returns to the home pitch on Sunday, October 14th as they host Fairleigh Dickinson.
