Men's Soccer Suffers First NEC Loss

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped their first Northeast Conference decision of the year to Fairleigh Dickinson 2-0 at home on Sunday afternoon.  The Blue Devils fall to 5-5-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.  Central and FDU (7-4-2, 4-0-1 NEC) entered Sunday's contest tied for first in the NEC.

Both of the Knight's goals were put on the board in the first half.

In the 18th minute of action, Nico Wright of Fairleigh Dickinson put the Knights up 1-0 scoring his fifth goal of the season.  Teammate Jefferey Barranchea assisted Wright on the goal feeding him a pass from the left side of the box.  Wright put a move on senior Blue Devil keeper Anthony Occhialini to put the shot passed him for the score.

11 minutes later, Fairleigh Dickinson registered another score in the 29th minute, their second goal of the half.  Jan Aubert of the Knights scored his third goal of the season.  Aubert Broke free down the left side and fired a shot at Occhialini.  The shot deflected off of Occhialini's hands back into the net for the FDU goal.

Occhialini had one save in the game, giving him his 30th save of the 2012 season.  He is now 5-5-2 and played 69:44 minutes before being relieved by senior James Perkins.

Senior Thomas Obasi and junior Manny Nobre each registered a shot on goal for the Blue Devils.  They were the only shots on goal that Central took.

Both squads finished the game dead-locked with eight shots each, Fairleigh Dickinson had three shots on goal to Central's two.

Next weekend the Blue Devils will host two NEC opponents at home.  Friday, October 19th Central will face Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart on Sunday, October 21st.
