Central Connecticut freshman Ben Knight was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. The first-year Blue Devil earned the award for his performance this weekend at St. Francis (NY) on Friday night and Fairleigh Dickinson at home on Sunday afternoon.
Knight scored the first two goals of his career on Friday, October 12th against the Terriers. His first goal came in the 69th minute of action from a shot off of a rebound. With 21 seconds left in regulation, Knight netted his second goal from 35 yards out to seal the Blue Devil victory in heart-breaking fashion.
The freshman has started all 13 games for the Blue Devils in 2012, the only freshman on the team to do so. He has registered four points off of two goals and four shots-on-goal with a .444 shot percentage.
Central went 1-1 this past weekend topping the St. Francis (NY) Terriers 3-2 on October 12th and dropping their first conference decision to Fairleigh Dickinson 2-0 on October 14th. The Blue Devils are now 5-6-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the conference. Central entered Sunday's match tied for first place in the conference with opponent Fairleigh Dickinson.
Central is back in action on Friday, October 19th to face Mount St. Mary's at 7 p.m. at home on the CCSU Soccer Field.
