Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win, Topping UMass-Lowell

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team posted its first victory of the season, topping UMass-Lowell 1-0 in Central's home opener on Wednesday night.  Senior Eddy Bogle scored the lone goal of the game, his first of the season, to push Central's record to 1-4-1 on the season.  The Riverhawks fall to 1-5 on the year.

Bogle's goal came off a corner kick from sophomore Zach Zurita at 75:25 of the second half to break the scoreless tie.  The assist is the first of the season for Zurita, who now has a hand in all three Blue Devil goals in 2013.

Junior goalkeeper Josef Abele posted his first solo shutout of the season, recording four saves, including three in the first half.

Central held a 16-13 advantage in total shots, and led 8-4 in shots on goal.  UMass-Lowell keeper Chris Maierle had six saves in the 1-0 loss.

The Blue Devils also held a large 12-4 advantage in corner kicks in their home opener.

Central didn't allow a goal for the second straight game, and heading into Sunday's game on the road they have a shutout streak sitting at 190 minutes.

After playing the first five games of the season away from home, the game was the first this year on the CCSU Soccer Field.  Central now takes to the road for two straight, but will finish the season playing seven of its final 10 games at home.

The Blue Devils return to action on Sunday afternoon at Stony Brook beginning at 2 p.m.  They will then travel to Monmouth next Saturday, Sept. 28, at 7 p.m. before returning home vs. Hartford on Oct. 2.
