Men's Soccer Drops 2OT Match on Senior Day

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Bryant in double overtime on Sunday afternoon in New Britain.  The Bulldogs scored on a penalty kick in overtime to claim the victory.  Central ends the season with a 5-10-2 overall record and a 1-5-1 record in league play.  Bryant is now 9-4-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the Northeast Conference.

Bryant took a 1-0 lead with 21:55 left in the first half.  Shane Murphy fed a long ball into the box from near midfield, and teammate Connor Norat headed it by Central keeper Josef Abele for the 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Blue Devils tied the game 1-1 on the third goal of the year from junior Zach Zurita.  Zurita cleared the defense after causing a turnover at midfield and then beat the Bryant keeper one-on-one to tie the game with just under 17 minutes to play in the first half.  Chris Knaub got a piece of the ball as it went by but it was able to clear the goalline and tie the game.

Zurita had an identical chance to score just minutes later but his shot went wide right, and the score remained 1-1.

The game remained 1-1 until the second overtime, when the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick on a foul in the  box.  Norat posted his second goal of the game on the penalty kick, giving the Bulldogs the 2-1 victory.

Bryant held a 13-10 advantage in shots, including 8-3 in shots on goal.  Abele had five saves for the Blue Devils.

Prior to the game the Blue Devils honored their seven seniors.
