Men's Soccer Shutout at UMass Lowell, 1-0, Sunday

The Central Connecticut men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback at UMass Lowell on Sunday afternoon. The River Hawks took advantage of an early goal and held the Blue Devils off.

Central slips to 0-2-0 on the season, while UMass Lowell is now 3-0-1 overall.

The Blue Devils travel to the Peter Baldwin Classic next weekend in Burlington, VT. CCSU will face Saint Peter's on Friday and Vermont on Sunday. Both games will kick off at 4:00 p.m.

The River Hawks got the game's only goal just 2:22 into the contest. Malango Mayele played a through ball over the CCSU defense that was settled by Stanley Alves. Alves tapped the ball past the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0.

The Blue Devils would try to rally and had a scoring chance late in regulation. With just under five minutes to play, freshman Noah Silverman took a corner for CCSU. His kick found classmate Julian Zass who got off a header, but UML's Zach Rowell made the save to keep score 1-0.

UML finished with a slim, 8-5, edge in shots. Senior Carson D'Ambrosio made three saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Central is back in action on Friday, Sept. 7, with a 4:00 p.m. game against Saint Peter's at the Peter Baldwin Classic in Burlington, VT.
