Blue Devils Place Fourth at Sorlein Invite
Freshmen Mohamed Hrezi and Aaron Radden each recorded second place finishes, but Central Connecticut State University placed fourth out of eight teams at the Sorlein Invitational on the campus of Rhode Island Saturday. Hrezi took second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:31.79, while Radden recorded a time 6.48 seconds to place second in the 55 meter dash.
Two other Blue Devils were in the top five in the 1,000. Sophomore Dan Watson was fourth in 2:35.30, while freshman Mike Waterbury was right behind him in fifth recording a time of 2:35.61. Three more CCSU team members recorded top five finishes on Saturday. Senior Clinton DePaolo placed fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.24 seconds), junior Shawn Buchanan was third in the 500 meters (1:06.71) and sophomore Sam Alexander took fifth in the one mile run (4:27.12.).
Sophomore Matt Berube was the lone Blue Devil to finish in the top five in a field event at Rhode Island. He placed third in the triple jump, recording a distance of 13.32 meters, and took fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.89 meters. The CCSU 4x400 meter relay was the final top five performance by Central Connecticut. The team of Buchanan, Hrezi, freshman Dan Hopper and Radden took third, crossing the line in 3:25.49.
CCSU finished with 67.5 team points for fourth place. UConn won the meet with 226 total points. The Blue Devils also trailed the host Rams and Vermont and defeated UMass Dartmouth, Wheaton, New Haven and Southern Connecticut. Central Connecticut will next compete at the Boston Indoor Games on Friday, January 29.
