Men's Track Claims Nine Spots on 2011 NEC Indoor Track All-Conference Teams

The Central Connecticut men's track team won the 2011 Northeast Conference Indoor Track Championship last week and now they have claimed nine spots on All-NEC teams for their performances at the meet. Five Blue Devil runners made All-NEC teams, with three of them making it for multiple events. Also, Coach Eric Blake and his staff were voted 2011 NEC Men's Track Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year after the NEC Championships.

Selections for the All-NEC teams were based on performance at the NEC Indoor Championships. First place finishers were named to the first team in that event and second place finishers to the second team. The All-Rookie team consists of the top freshman performer in each event.

Sophomore sprinter Aaron Radden led the way for the Blue Devils grabbing a pair of first team selections. Radden won the 60 and 200 meter events for the second consecutive year at the NEC Championships. He ran the 60 in 6.89 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.75 seconds. Joining Radden on the first team were junior Jeremy Schmid and freshman Denzell Jones. Schmid captured the NEC title in the mile with a 4:18.08 performance and Jones won the high jump at his first NEC meet by clearing 2.10 meters (6' 10.75").

Freshman Legairre Radden followed his brother to CCSU and he landed his own spot on the All-NEC Second Team after finishing second in the 400 meters. Radden ran a 50.23 second quarter mile to earn silver. Also on the All-NEC Second Team is junior Sam Alexander, the Blue Devil distance standout posted a 15:01.88 time in the 5,000 meters to earn a silver medal.

Legairre Radden also earned and All-NEC Rookie Team selection for his performance in the 400 meters. Jones grabbed a pair of All-NEC Rookie spots taking home the high jump and the triple jump honors. Jones triple jumped 13.85 meters (45' 5.25") to take home the bronze.

This is the second honor of the year for Coach Blake and his staff of Katie Souviney, Brad Dion, Laura Burstolon, and Kyle Green-Pendelton. The Blue Devil staff received the same honor from the conference after they captured the NEC Men's Cross Country Championship in the Fall.

The Blue Devils will be back in action this weekend at the New England Championships in Boston.
