Last year, CCSU finished in the middle of the pack at the 2017 NEC Indoor Championships and produced two individual champions, senior Sam Borecki (Pole Vault) and Central graduate Joe Gioielli (Mile).
The Blue Devils enter this season title meet with two top seeded athletes in senior Austin Trainor (Mile: 4:05.72) and junior Alex Norstrom (5K: 14:30.71). Junior Akiel Smith ranks second in the NEC in the 200 meter (21.77s) and third in the 60 meter dash (6.89s) and last week's NEC Rookie of the Week, Jonathan Gill, will look to lead the Blue Devils in the 800 meter run with his second-seeded time of 1:54.46.
In the field, sophomores Amaziah Gadson and Marquis Ward rank second and third, respectively, in the league in the high jump and the reigning pole vault champion, Borecki, is seeded second with his school record-tying mark of 4.95 meters set at the Joe Donahue Games on January 19.
Junior Mike Lang will look to one-up his long jump two seed of 6.99 meters set at the New England Championships two weekends ago.
The Blue Devils last won the NEC championship in 2011 and were led by Aaron Radden who won two individual championships (60m, 200m) en route to being named the Most Valuable Athlete and Outstanding Track Performer of the title meet.
