The Central Connecticut State University men's cross country team placed 16th out of 47 teams in competition at the New England Championships on Saturday. Sophomore Sam Alexander led the Blue Devils, placing 32nd with a time of 25:26 on the eight kilometer course at Franklin Park in Boston, MA.
Central finished with 490 team points, placing just ahead of Keene State in 17th with 492 and behind Boston University with 469 in 15th. The Blue Devils finished ahead of the three other Northeast Conference teams at the meet. Sacred Heart was 18th, Quinnipiac took 26th and Bryant finished in 36th.
Freshman Craig Hunt and sophomore Jeremy Schmid finished within three seconds of each other as the second and third finishers for CCSU. Hunt placed 79th in 25:59, while Schmid took 82nd with a time of 26:02.
Sophomore Dan Watson and freshman Josh Trares were the final two scorers for the Blue Devils, crossing the line in 26:35 (144th) and 26:38 (153rd), respectively. Senior Robert Weston and sophomore Kevin Tiernan rounded out the Central harriers, placing 172nd (26:48) and 201st (27:04), respectively.
CCSU will next compete when they host the CCSU Mini Meet on Saturday October 24 at 10:00 a.m.
