Two members of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team earned Northeast Conference weekly honors after the squad tied for first this week at the Father O'Neil Invitational hosted by Fairfield University, the league announced Wednesday. Junior Patrick Hubbell was named NEC Athlete of the Week while freshman Thomas Lupoli was tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week.
Hubbell opened the 2013 cross country season in impressive fashion, crossing the tape first on Saturday. He registered a time of 16:19.63, almost 14 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor en-route to leading CCSU to a first-place tie in the team scoring with the host Stags.
Lupoli began his collegiate cross country career as the third Blue Devil finisher at the Father O'Neil Invitational where he cracked the top-10, claiming ninth among 39 competitors with his time of 17:20.38.
The Blue Devils are set to return to action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when Central hosts the 11th Annual Ted Owen Invitational at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The men's race is schedule to begin at 11 a.m.
