French Named NEC Rookie of the Week

Central Connecticut men's cross country freshman Derek French was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for his performance on Saturday at the Ted Owen Invitational, the conference announced Tuesday.

French placed 26th among 70 runners in Saturday's meet and crossed the finish line registering a time of 27:39.32. He earned 16 team points, crossing third for the Blue Devils.

A CCSU cross country rookie, French competed on the Central track and field team last season on which he was named to the NEC All-Rookie team. He had an impressive performance at the NEC Championships, placing ninth in both the 10,000m run and the 3,000m steeplechase with career-best times of 32:52.44 and 10:04.96, respectively.

The Norwich, CT native and the rest of the Blue Devils will return to action this Saturday, Sept. 28, at Saint Francis U.
