The Central Connecticut men's cross country team placed 23rd out of 35 teams competing in the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships at VanCortlandt Park in Bronx, NY on Friday, November 11th. Senior Tyler Raymond finished the 10K course first for Central, clocking in a time of 31:54.57, an average mile pace of 5:09, and good for a 52nd place in the overall standings out of field of 245 runners. Last week, Raymond finished second as CCSU claimed their eighth straight NEC Title, running the 5k championship route in 26:57.6.
Following the senior in 92nd and 138th place, was sophomore Austin Trainor and senior Derek French, respectively. Trainor finished the course in 32:28.22 (5:14 mile pace), and French ran a 5:21 mile pace, clocking in a time of 33:09.93.
Sophomore Alex Norstrom marked a time of 33:24.15 (151th place). Finishing within one second of each other were seniors, Joe Gioielli, who grabbed the 169th place in the standings, running a time of 33:39.46, and Malcolm Connor (170th place) who finished the 10,000 meter race in 33:39.48.
The men's cross country team will travel back to VanCortlandt Park on Saturday, November 19th, to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships as the 2016 cross country season winds down.
