Senior Roberto Piotto and freshman Elias Field of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team swept the Northeast Conference weekly awards announced by the league's office on Thursday afternoon. Piotto was tabbed the league's Athlete of the Week, while Field was named the Rookie of the Week. The pair had an impressive showing to open the 2019 cross country season at the Marist College Invitational last weekend.
In a field of 58 runners, Piotto finished first place overall with a time of 19:13.8 in the men's 6K race. The Glastonbury, CT native crossed the finish line less than four seconds ahead of the Manhattan runner who came in second.
Field clocked in at 18th place overall with a time of 19:43.6. He was the third finisher for the Blue Devils and the sixth freshman to complete the course.
The duo along with the rest of the Central Connecticut squad will train for a few weeks before hosting the CCSU Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT.
