Softball Hosts FDU Sunday at Noon

The Central Connecticut softball team will host the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights for two of only six remaining NEC games for the Blue Devils. CCSU currently ranks second in the NEC with an 11-3 record and FDU is 7-7 in the conference. The Knights currently hold the sixth spot, only two away from NEC tournament qualification.

The Blue Devils hope to sweep the Knights and inch closer to clinching a tournament berth.

Last season, Central lost both games of the doubleheader against FDU by a score of 3-2. In the last four seasons, the two teams have traded sweeps and the Blue Devils are 8-8 overall with the Knights since 2004.

This season, Fairleigh Dickinson split with conference leader Robert Morris, earning a 3-2 win and suffering a 1-0 loss.

The Blue Devils are currently ranked 31st in the nation in batting average and 28th in slugging percentage. Sophomore Laura Messina, CCSU's winningest pitcher and career record-holder in shutouts and strikeouts, is ranked ninth nationally in shutouts. She is also ranked 16th in walks allowed per seven innings.
