The Central Connecticut softball team traded games at Siena on Tuesday, April 11 winning the first contest 6-1, and dropping the second game 2-1 in Loudonville, NY. In game one, junior catcher Brittany McNulla went 3-for-4 with two RBI's to lead the Blue Devils. CCSU's starting pitcher rookie Sarah Ogilvie, earned her first career victory while completing her first complete game.
The Blue Devils are now 8-18 overall and 3-5 in the Northeast Conference. Siena moves to 9-20 after Tuesday's doubleheader.
Central out-hit the Saint Bernards 10-2 in game one and scored five of its six runs in the final two innings, led by a pair of RBI double's from Ogilvie and sophomore Kaitlin Paterson to left field in the top of the sixth inning.
The Saint Bernards got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the fourth inning after a scoreless first three innings. The Blue Devils responded right back in the top of the fifth inning, when Paterson batted in freshman Kaleigh Edwards who reached on a single to center, to tie the game at 1-1.
Not content with a 4-1 lead in the top of the seventh, McNulla doubled to right field sending junior Alexis Debrosse home and advancing classmate Brittany Camara to third. Sophomore Kerri Dadalski gave CCSU the 6-1 lead on the following at bat, with a sac fly that scored Camara.
Ogilvie (1-3) struck out six batters and gave up a mere two hits in her first career win as a Blue Devil. Camara went 2-for-4 and scored twice, and Paterson chipped in a pair of RBI's for Central.
Fueled by the momentum of the game one victory, shortshop Alexis Debrosse doubled to center field to lead off for CCSU. Debrosse scored on a sac fly from McNulla, giving Central the 1-0 early lead.
The two teams recorded zero's across the board in the following five innings in a pitching duel against CCSU's ace, junior Emily Sargent, and Siena's McMahon. Trailing 1-0 in their last at bats, the Saint Bernards managed two runs to seal the 2-1 win, with a walk-off single to center field.
Sargent moves her overall pitching record to 5-14 on the year. The Central Connecticut softball squad takes the field again on Friday, April 14 for an NEC doubleheader at Mount St. Mary's at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
