The Central Connecticut softball team suffered a 5-1 loss in its final game at the USF Under Armour Classic in Tampa, FL on Sunday at the Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Blue Devils fall to 4-12 on the year and will next face the Yale Bulldogs on Tuesday, March 13 at CCSU Softball Field in New Britain, CT for a doubleheader at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a triple to right center from Rachel Timberman to take a 1-0 lead over CCSU.
The Blue Devils would then capitalize on a Lehigh error at first base, allowing sophomore Emily Cronin to jet home to tie the ball game at 1-1.
Following a single and stolen base, Lehigh's Payton Alsobrooks smacked an RBI-single up the middle to give the Hawks back the lead, 2-1, where it would stay for the remainder of the contest.
Central Connecticut fell behind 5-1 following a three-run sixth inning from Lehigh.
Senior Tori Constantin started the Blue Devils final chance at the plate with a hard-driven single to center field. CCSU would load the bases with one out after a hit-by-pitch and a single from Cronin with two of Central's top-hitters on deck, seniors Brittany Camara and Lex Debrosse.
However, the Hawks would finish the game with two straight outs to earn its third win of the season (3-10).
Senior Emily Sargent pitched all six innings for the Blue Devils and moves her record to 1-5 on the year. Lehigh's Parker Boyd advanced to 2-5 on the season and pitched a complete game for the Hawks.
